Day 1-September 8, 2010: We spent the morning trying to finish getting packed. We had a few errands left to run and then we grabbed lunch at Qdoba before Rachel Pope picked us up to take us to the airport. We arrived far earlier than we needed to and spent close to two hours in the super exciting Charleston airport waiting for our plane. Once on it, we headed to Charlotte where we connected with a flight directly to Roma. We did have a bit of problem with the seating arrangements and thought we were going to be sitting separately, but fortunately they worked out seats for us. We ended up sitting next to an older couple who were quite interested in philosophy so of course Nate got into a philosophical discussion with them where he found himself in over his head a bit but still enjoyed it. The trip was over ten hours total and was pretty uneventful. We got into Rome pretty worn out but ready to see one of the most exciting and historically significant cities in the world!
